I’m really excited because I’ve taken the time to learn what goes into building a blog and editing a website. My new blog (and website!) has been built using a custom WordPress theme – something very new for me. I’m proud of my decision to build the site using an Open-Source platform (How rad is it that I can quote phrases like Open-Source? I’m a geek already!).

As a small business owner, it is important to take control of your assets, which includes your online presence. It is so valuable to be able to answer questions like; What is your Google Pagerank? What results turn up in a Google Search for your name? Is your website easily indexed by search engines (by having text as HTML instead of text as an image?) Yes, I know that these may be scary questions, but with a little research and discussions with friends, I’ve learned that it’s not only easy, but actually kind of fun.

I think the message here is that learning a new skill, embarking on a change, and trying something new (like website development) isn’t reserved for the “Gen Y’ers” or the young technology experts; someone at my age can pick up these skills and be good at it. I’m proud to say that I’m familiar with HTML and FTP configurations, and I’m learning how to blog. I’d love for you to join me on this technological journey.
